How Do I Clean My Sauna?

Infrared saunas require minimal maintenance. Before using your Sauna for the first time, clean the inside of the sauna with a damp cloth. Use towels on the bench and on the floor to absorb perspiration during your sauna session. What is the Difference between Carbon Heaters and Ceramic Tubes?

Carbon infrared heat is the latest in sauna therapy technology. The major benefits of carbon infrared heat comes from the material itself as well as the infrared heat that is emitted. Infrared heat is a dry heat that focuses its energy on the object and does not heat the air. This is why it is effective at lower temperatures. Carbon is a modern composite that is renowned for its ability to conduct heat. Studies have shown that it can be up to 98% effective at turning energy into infrared heat resulting in lower maintenance costs. The carbon panels are flat and spread out over a large surface area. The entire surface area is heated producing an evenly distributed heat. Metal and ceramic rods need to concentrate the heat in a small area so they must run at a higher temperature to disperse and maintain the desired heat level. The concentrated heat can cause burns when it comes into contact with the skin. Carbon panels, although hot, are safe to touch. The ceramic tubes do not surround the entire surface area of the sauna making it less efficient in heating the object. In addition, they have hot spots, certain areas of your sauna will have sufficient infrared heat while others have none.

What type of wood do you use?

Sahara Valley offers our customers two types of quality woods to choose from in their infrared saunas. Both cedar and hemlock are available and are the most popular woods used to manufacture infrared saunas. We have found that half of our customers prefer Canadian/Alaskan hemlock and half prefer Canadian red cedar. People base their decisions on the following criteria: the price difference and the colour of the wood. Some people feel the aromatic cedar smell reminds them of a traditional sauna. A small percentage of people have allergic reactions to cedar oil and prefer the non-allergenic hemlock.

Hemlock Wood Saunas

Wood comes from the Canadian/Alaskan hemlock tree (Pine Family).
Light coloured wood
Slight natural wood aroma
Lower in price

Hemlock is a light wood, blonde in colour, making it perfect for any decor. It adds a touch of class to the room. Hemlock is a soft wood used by many sauna companies. It is an excellent wood for people with allergies. Hemlock wood is a little denser than cedar making it heavier than cedar. As an example, a cedar sauna that weighs 400 pounds would weigh 450 pounds in hemlock.

Cedar Wood Saunas

Wood comes from the Canadian red cedar tree.
Darker coloured wood
Natural cedar aroma
Cedar oil may cause allergic reaction in a small percentage of sensitive people

Canadian red cedar is darker in colour which adds elegance to your home decor. It is renowned for its aromatic features as well as its ability to withstand climate changes and moisture. Cedar resists cracking and splitting caused by the heating up and cooling down in the sauna. The cedar oil is a natural anti-fungal and anti-bacterial property of the cedar wood.

Where can a sauna be installed in the home?

Your beautiful Sahara Valley Sauna can be placed in various locations within your home or business. Due to the nature of the infrared heat you do not have to worry about moisture problems that are created by a conventional steam sauna.
